GMC BASKETBALL CHEER SY 23-24
We are excited about your interest in trying out to be a GMC cheerleader. Please understand, being a cheerleader is a big commitment. You will have a lot of fun, but there is also a lot of work involved.
Before You Sign Up:
Is cheer for me………
- There will be two to three practices per week for all squad members, in addition to the games.
- You will be expected to be at all practices and all games unless you have a very valid excuse. When even one cheerleader is out, it affects the whole practice and whatever routine is being planned for the game or pep rally.
- Signing up to try out means you are committed to the sport and your teammates for the entire season if you make the team. Quitting the team during the season may result in not being able to try out for the next year’s season. (Your coach will go over what types of absences are excused and unexcused should you make the team).
Forms:
- Please complete the form and return it by September 6, 2023. High School forms go to Maj. Valencia and Middle School forms go to Maj. Deariso or Maj. Youngblood.
- Once forms are received, we will get your current GMC/GHSA physical form from the nurse. If your physical is not current, the student and parent will be notified by email with more information.
Tryout Material:
- Instructional videos for all tryout materials will be posted on August 22, 2023, on the gmccheerleading.educatorpages.com website. Choose the team you are trying out for (middle school or high school).
- You are required to do the cheer, dance, and three jumps.
- You will be judged on your skills, coordination, voice, smile, rhythm, and enthusiasm. A copy of the score sheet is attached. Judges will also be watching for attitude and ability to work with others.
Help Session (optional):
- September 7, 2023, from 4:00 to 5:00 in the Cordell Event Center (main gym).
- You must wear tennis shoes, black shorts, a red shirt, hair up, and no jewelry.
Tryouts (mandatory):
- September 14, 2023, beginning at 4:00 PM in Cordell Event Center.
- You must wear tennis shoes, black shorts, a red shirt, hair up, and no jewelry.
Results:
- Posted after school on September 15, 2023, on the website, gmccheerleading.educatorpages.com. Choose the team you tried out for and look for your tryout number to see if you made the team.
Making the team:
- Please see your coach on September 19, 2023, for further information on making the team (uniforms, fittings, ordering your cheer accessories, t-shirt orders, camp, games/competition schedule, practices, etc.).
- Costs – will depend on the team you make. Cheerleading costs are between $150 to $250.
